In 1990, Tihomir Peloz opened his first butcher shop in Šempeter, and soon afterwards three more (Miren, Vrtojba, Nova Gorica). As we expanded, our desire grew to sell our own products along with those of other producers.
Our meat-packing plant in Nova Gorica was built in 1998, and all the conditions were met for establishing our company, PELOZ d.o.o. Built to meet European standards and furnished with the most modern technology, the new plant boasts 1200 m2 of production space. Highly skilled staff and our own recipes guarantee top quality products. Production has grown steadily but has not yet reached full capacity, which amounts to around 150 tons monthly. In our wide range of products, we place most emphasis on dried-meat items, particularly our Karst ("Kraški") line. Slovenia's karst region has long been famous for its pršut ("prosciutto"), which is hung in well-ventilated attics to cure in the bora wind that sweeps steadily across the region.
Although our products have only been on the market for a short time, our trademark is already well known. Along with covering western Slovenia, we are also present in other regions and cities and have regular customers in Maribor, Celje, Novo mesto, Brežice, Kranj, . . . Our recognized quality and competitive prices promise further expansion into new market areas.
The prizes and awards we have so far received for the quality of our products only serve to confirm this trend. Especially worth noting is the Slovene Chamber of Commerce's award for best-run operation, which we received this year in the "Small Business" category.
